Malaysia to host World Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Federation (WBPF) Championships 2011

Malaysia has been chosen to host the 2011 WBPF World Bodybuilding Championships and the Malaysian Bodybuilding Federation (MBBF) has send a letter of invitation to all its Affiliate State members, who might have any interest to organise this edition in their state.

At press time, only Melaka has shown any interest in organising this prestigious championships as the cost of organising it is said to be a whopping RM1million (covering all expanses - food, accomodation, transportation and prizes for all competitors & officials) has put off many of the states affiliates.

The man at the helm to organise the 2011 WBPF World Bodybuilding Championships, would be YBhg. Datuk Wira Gan Boon Leong, the President of Malacca Bodybuilding & Weightlifting Association & the President of Malaysian Bodybuilding Federation, who has been organising many world standard championships on our shores.

YBhg. Datuk Wira Gan Boon Leong and his wife, YBhg. Datin Wira Chong Kin Yock

He was the man behind the organising of the Asian Bodybuilding Championships (3 times - 1987, 1993, 1994), the Mens World Championships (in Kuala Lumpur - 1990), the Asean Bodybuilding Championships (1992), the Asean Pro Am Classic (1993), the first Commonwealth Bodybuilding Championships (1998) and the Mr. Universe (2000).

With YBhg. Datuk Wira Gan Boon Leong again to head the organising committee, Malaysia would once again open its doors to welcome all the international bodybuilders to its shores particularly to Melaka come 2011.

  1. It is indeed nice to see that Melaka is able to host the WBPF World Bodybuilding Championships which means that bodybuilding in Melaka has been well recognised and supported, but in Sarawak, the bodybuilding association is perpetually poor, government didn't think much of the support and the bodybuilders have to bear hugh financial burden themselves even a food blog like Bee J You Tiao feel for them. 2. Effort need to be made by all State sports associations be it by them personally or with the assistance of the State Government / State Sports Council. Without which the athletes will feel frustrated without their effort in training coming to a naught.

As for me, I do the best I can with the coorperation / assistance of KLBBF, try to get the necessary assistance from the Sports Council and / or private entities to assist in organising our annual state bodybuilding championships. Without which, all effort will come to waste for all concern.

We should by all means work hard for the athletes (giving them the support) as they have shown their support by trying to win medals during the National bodybuilding championships.

All the best to you in Sarawak. My thoughts and prayers for your endeavours in promoting bodybuilding there.
